DOVEMAN

William Basinski + 802 Tour

Doveman is Thomas Bartlett and his select group of collaborators.  He’s also one of New York’s most in-demand keyboard players, collaborating and touring with artists such as Glen Hansard (Once, Swell Season), The National, Martha Wainwright, Antony Hegarty, David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto, and Yoko Ono (the list grows).

Bartlett founded the project in 2005 with the release of The Acrobat, a moody debut that highlighted his whispered vocals and ambient, jazz-influenced arrangements.

“It’s sad music that twists its way into the locks and tumblers of your aching heart and neurotic mind.” – Better Propaganda

After dubbing his music “lamp rock”, he returned with With My Left Hand I Raise the Dead, a spacey, impressionistic group of tunes that resembled a slowly unfolding mood piece – perfect for late night chill-out sessions.  Doveman followed that effort with a track-by-track re-creation of the Footloose soundtrack.  The blogosphere went nuts.  Sony filed a cease-and-desist.  The Doveman version remains available through clandestine means.

The Conformist, arrived in 2009 and was named as a contender for Album of the Year by Blurt Magazine.  The Swell Season’s Glen Hansard says, “The Conformist is just fucking beautiful.”  Amen.  Doveman will be performing as part of The 802 Tour at Big Ears.
